Sango kaku

The "Coral Bark" Japanese maple is a popular choice for fall and winter interest.  It's green summer foliage changes to a bright gold in the fall while the stems become coral to red during the winter.  'Sango kaku' is best suited for slightly sheltered locations to prevent stem damage during winter.
